The opening weekend of the college football season was marked by a new blast of music from Charleston’s Darius Rucker.
The country star and lead singer of Hootie & The Blowfish has recorded a new version of the ESPN College GameDay theme “Comin’ To Your City,” a song first made famous by country duo Big & Rich.
The song, also featuring Lainey Wilson and The Cadillac Three, debuted on the show Saturday.
Rucker, who formed Hootie & the Blowfish at the University of South Carolina with friends Mark Bryan, Jim Sonefeld and Dean Felber, also served as GameDay’s celebrity picker on Saturday and was scheduled to sing the national anthem before the opening of the Gamecocks’ season against North Carolina on Saturday in Charlotte.
Her new album, “Carolyn’s Boy,” is set to be released on October 6.
