Donald Trump and Joe Biden went head-to-head in the first debate of the 2024 presidential race, with golf being a surprising hot topic — and Bryson DeChambeau is ready to help them settle it
Bryson DeChambeau threw down the gauntlet by offering to host a Golf competition between Donald Trump And Joe BidenThe challenge comes just after a heated exchange over their golfing prowess during the duo’s first live debate on CNN.
The conversation took a different turn to golf after CNN’s Dana Bash brought up how old Trump, 78, and Biden, 81, would be when they leave office. Defending his age, Biden was interrupted by Trump who claimed he had passed two cognitive tests.
The debate quickly turned personal, with Trump boasting that he recently “won two club championships – not even senior – two regular club championships.”
He boasted: “To do that, you have to be very smart and be able to hit the ball very far, and I can do that. He can’t. He can’t hit a ball 50 yards. He challenged me to a golf match, he can’t hit a ball 50 yards.”
Biden responded by saying he would be “happy to have a golf contest” to show off his golfing skills. “I’ve lowered my handicap from six when I was vice president,” Biden said. “And by the way, I’ve told you before, I’m happy to play golf if you carry your own bag. Do you think you can do that?”
Trump responded by accusing Biden of lying: “It’s the biggest lie that he’s a six.” Biden then appeared to backtrack slightly, correcting himself: “I was an eight. Yeah. Eight.”
“I saw you swing. I know your swing,” Trump taunted. “Let’s not act like children,” to which Biden responded, “You’re a child.”
The debate took an unexpected turn to golf, leading US Open champion DeChambeau to chime in with a cheeky offer of X. LIV golf superstar and social media heavyweight suggested: “Let’s settle this whole handicapping debate, I’ll host the golf match on my YouTube @realDonaldTrump @JoeBiden.”
DeChambeau, who previously played the course with Trump, has expressed admiration for the former president in the past, saying he was “very fortunate to have a relationship with him” and noting, “He’s always been generous to me.”
He is also friends with Trump’s son Eric and was spotted drinking wine from his US Open trophy with him in New York just after his victory. Donald Trump also shared his congratulations after his second major victory.
“Congratulations to Bryson DeChambeau on his incredible WIN at the US Open!” he wrote on Truth Social. “He showed a tenacity and inner strength, perfectly matched with his GREAT golfing talent, that cannot be denied!”
“Under enormous pressure he hit some of the greatest shots ever made, particularly his spectacular save in the sand on the 18th hole that gave him victory.”
With 788,000 subscribers already hooked on each of his videos, DeChambeau’s YouTube channel could explode if he can pull off the highly anticipated Trump vs. Biden golf showdown.
