Sydney (AP) – Sandy Brondello is expected to train the Australia’s opals at the 2028 summer games in Los Angeles, extending its involvement with the national women’s basketball team at a seventh Olympic Games.
Brondello, who guided the opals to an Olympic bronze medal in Paris last year, helped freedom in New York to win the WNBA title in October.
She played for Opals at the 1988, 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games and was appointed coach in 2017, guiding the team at Tokyo Games and Paris.
“Having represented at six Olympic games as a player and now coach, The Opals is such a large part of my life and of which I am most proud,” said Brondello in a statement on Tuesday. “Having the pleasure of working with such motivated and talented athletes is such joy, and the success we had is such a testimony of the wider team that make up the opals.”
Basketball Australia appointed Paul Goriss as a associate head coach to direct the program while Brondello has commitments from the WNBA.
