THE The 2013 Winter Classic is no more. Both sides of the lockout are talking about meeting but nothing official has been scheduled. Pessimism among hockey fans is at an all-time low.
“The logistical demands of hosting events of this magnitude made today’s decision inevitable. We simply ran out of time,” said league deputy commissioner Bill Daly. said on NHL.com regarding the loss of the outside game.
The phrase “out of time” could be used again if the owners and players cannot reach an agreement. But there’s a possibility of fans not caring, given how disgusted they are with both sides. When we asked weeks ago if there was optimism season would start in October, one commenter responded: “Who cares?”
Regardless, a decision will be made to either have an abbreviated season like the one planned for the NHL in 1994-95, or not play at all, a repeat of the 2004-05 lockout that could seriously cripple the league if and when it returns.
It’s time for you to look into the crystal ball and make a prediction: After seeing the Winter Classic canceled, are you convinced there will be a season? If there is no 2012-2013 schedule, will you return when NHL hockey returns? Are you interested in it anyway after going through the lockdown? Head over to the comments section and let us know.
