The last time I was at the Peoria Sports Complex, I was getting my COVID vaccine. It wasn’t yesterday either. Strange what sticks in your mind. Regardless, tonight the D-backs are heading toward a possible meeting with Josh Naylor, who signed a long-term contract – 5 years, $92,500,000 – with Seattle. But it will be a bit strange not to see Eugenio Suarez, who is now a member of the Reds. It feels like the Mariners and D-backs have been frequent trade partners over the past few years, and it’s generally worked out pretty well for both. But tonight, they face each other.
After Ryne Nelson leaves, it will be RHP Taylor Clarke, RHP Juan Morillo, RHP Juan Burgos, RHP Joe Ross, RHP Taylor Rashi and RHP Daniel Eagen. I wonder if there’s a chance he could be the opening day starter for the D-backs now that Merrill Kelly is out? After last season’s performance, it would seem like he deserves it, but other factors may be at play. He’s younger and less experienced than everyone else except Brandon Pfaadt, and while that doesn’t matter, there’s also something to be said for Zac Gallen. Hopefully we won’t encounter the same problems as last year with Corbin Burnes.

Some options for watching this one tonight. This will be the Mariners’ broadcast, but it will be available on dbacks.tv and is also expected to air on the MLB Network. They also added the March 10 game at Camelback Ranch against the Dodgers to their schedule (subject to change), so that’s good.
