THE Oklahoma City Thunder have seemed fragile lately, after dominating at the start of the year.
The Thunder have lost two of their last three games and just got by in their last game, coming back to defeat the Utah Jazz (12-24) in overtime.
Before their next match against Memphis Grizzlies On Friday, the team received encouraging news.
According to Misko Raznatovic (Nikola Topic’s agent), Topic has completed chemotherapy following his testicular cancer diagnosis and is returning to training with the Thunder.
Topic, still only 20 years old, was selected 12th overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, but missed his entire rookie season due to a torn ACL. Following this injury, when Topic was close to returning, he was diagnosed with cancer.
Having now completed his chemotherapy, Topic can return to training in hopes of making his NBA debut.
That said, the timetable for his return has not yet been revealed. As the Thunder continue to struggle in the Western Conference, it wouldn’t be out of the question for Topic to be assigned to the Oklahoma City Blue (OKC’s G-League affiliate) to work toward a comeback.
Although Oklahoma City’s roster is one of the most complete in the league, the Thunder must be eager to see what additional success Topic can bring.
In the meantime, the pressure will remain on Oklahoma City to keep winning, as they hope to hold off other teams in their quest for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
