Sophie Cunningham Sparks Buzz With OnlyFans Comment Amid WNBA Salary Debate

Indiana Fever goalkeeper Sophie Cunningham raised eyebrows during her appearance on “Sundae Conversation with Caleb Pressley” last weekend. Talking about her free agent status and WNBA compensation, the conversation only got interesting from there.

Caleb asked her if, as a WNBA free agent, she was still getting paid; she replied, “Barely, but I still survive.” When Pressley asked Cunningham if she had a backup plan in case the WNBA “screwed her over,” Sophie had a witty response: “Not plan B. Project B.”

A new women’s basketball league

“Project B” is the brainchild of former Facebook and Google executive Grady Burnette and Skype co-founder Geoff Prentice. The two men plan to create a Formula 1-style competition in several sports, starting with women’s basketball. The women’s league will feature six teams, each made up of 11 players, who will compete in traditional 5-on-5 basketball via seven two-week tournaments across Europe, Asia and South America.

Of course, the promised salary is expected to be significantly higher than in the WNBA, which is why stars Nneka Ogwumike, Alyssa Thomas, Jewel Lloyd and Jonquel Jones have already expressed their desire to join. Meanwhile, Sophie is a free agent and, given the salary uncertainty in the women’s league, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she jumped ship as well. But that is not the climax of the story. Pressley then asked Cunningham if she really needed the league to make money because she’s so popular, or if she could join OnlyFans and make more money there than playing basketball.

“No, I think you need the leagues. Because that’s what gives you the platform to have all these fans,” she replied.

A determined Caleb then insisted that OnlyFans itself is already a platform. Sophie gave him food for thought. “Maybe Plan B should support this platform.”

This response led many fans online to insinuate and even fantasize that Cunningham might join the paid online subscription service which Top 10 winner Sophie Rain claimed earlier this month could have beaten NBA star LeBron James in terms of salary this year after nearly matching Bron’s salary in 2024.

The it-girl of the WNBA, according to Skip Bayless

Cunningham is one of the most popular players in the WNBA and one of the most attractive faces in the league. After playing her first six seasons with the Phoenix Mercury as just Jane, she became a superstar in 2025 after joining the Indiana Fever, where she became teammates with Caitlin Clark. Skip Bayless has already spoken about it Sophie’s rise from role actress to WNBA “it girl.”

“She quickly became friends with Caitlin; that was smart,”said Without bay. “And then she took on the role of Caitlin’s defender and protector on the field and in interviews, or public defender. Did that ever quickly endear her to billions of Caitlin’s fans? Then, with the spotlight shining on Sophie 100 times better than ever, she started making grand entrances into arenas, wearing spicy outfits, some provocative and very cool. She now has a million followers on Instagram…”

Given his growing popularity – this IG page now has 1.3 million followers and his looks, there is no doubt that Cunningham would be a success off the field as well.

Who knows, she might give the “other” Sophie a hard time. However, this might be wishful thinking, as she seemed more like she was simply highlighting the sad plight of WNBA salaries than expressing interest in jumping into the OF arena.
