Theme days set for 2025 football season in British Columbia

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College Athletics announced Thursday its BC Football Theme Days for 2025. The Eagles’ annual Red Bandanna Game, honoring alumnus and 9/11 hero Welles Crowther ’99, will take place Nov. 8 against SMU.

The 2025 schedule opens week one at home against Fordham on August 30 with faculty and staff appreciation combined with Healthcare Heroes Day presented by Mass. General Brigham. The annual Boston College Family Weekend takes place in Week 5 when the Eagles host California on September 27 for their home opener against one of the ACC’s two new West Coast schools.

A week after welcoming Clemson to The Heights, Boston College takes on Connecticut in homecoming on October 18. Working closely with BC Student Affairs and the Alumni Association, Homecoming will be the culmination of a week-long celebration at Heights, honoring the rich traditions and mission of BC.

The first of three straight home weeks begins with Notre Dame, making its first trip to Alumni Stadium for a game with fans since 2017, on November 1. A week later, the Eagles face SMU on Nov. 8 for the Red Bandanna Game and celebrate Military Appreciation Day.

The SMU game marks the 12th BC Red Bandana Game presented by Empower, in honor of Crowther, who died saving up to 12 people in the South Tower of the World Trade Center during the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

Boston College will wrap up its slate on Nov. 15 against Georgia Tech for the Jay McGillis Memorial Senior Day Game. McGillis, previously remembered by naming BC’s Jay McGillis Memorial Spring Game, will have his legacy honored annually on BC Seniors Day starting in 2025.

While playing under head coach Tom Coughlin as BC’s starting strong safety in 1991, McGillis was diagnosed with leukemia. Following intensive chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from his older brother, McGillis finally passed away in the summer of 1992. McGillis’ memory lived on throughout BC’s spring football game in his honor and will continue to be honored by the Jay McGillis ’93 Memorial Scholarship Fund, awarded annually to a senior defensive back by the BC Gridiron Club. Additionally, Coughlin founded the Jay Fund in 1996 to “help families fight childhood cancer by providing comprehensive financial, emotional and practical support.”

The spring football season in British Columbia begins with its first day of practice on March 11. Practices, which are closed to the public, will run through April 12 and no spring football games are included in the spring schedule. Check BCEagles.com and @BCFootball on social media for regular updates from Fish Field House.

New subscriptions for 2025 are currently sold out. Fans interested in new subscriptions can join the waiting list BCEagles.com/25fbWaitlist. Current subscribers have until May 31 to renew their subscription. After the May 31 deadline, any additional ticket inventory will be assessed before being distributed to those on the waitlist.

Tickets for select games, starting with the season opener against Fordham, as well as parking will go on sale soon. Individual tickets for high-demand games, including Notre Dame and Clemson, will be offered through the priority access process and will be sent to eligible accounts later this summer. Match times and broadcast designations for all matches will be announced at a later date.
