Renowned tennis analyst Gill Gross recently praised Novak Djokovic for his “classic” response to Rafael Nadal’s claims of frustration regarding their Grand Slam tally.

During an interview with MovistarPlus+, Nadal said Djokovic might have felt frustrated without the record for most Majors because it was more “intense.” The Spaniard’s remarks came after the Serbian won the 2023 US Open by beating Daniil Medvedev to claim a record 24th Grand Slam title.

“I’m not frustrated for a simple reason: within the limits of my possibilities, I did everything I could to make things happen for me. I think Novak feels this more intensely than me. If he doesn’t ‘hadn’t succeeded, that would perhaps have been a greater frustration for him,’ Nadal said.

Novak Djokovic has since responded to Rafael Nadal’s claims, in an interview with Sporty. The world No. 1 expressed his disagreement while maintaining a respectful attitude, refraining from making derogatory remarks towards the Spaniard.

“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and how they interpret someone else in that context. That’s all I can say. Rafa is a great champion, I appreciate and respect him greatly in as a champion, as my greatest rival, as a man and as a tennis player who has largely participated in shaping my game and the results I have achieved,” Djokovic said (quotes are translated ).

“In no way do I intend to speak about him or Roger Federer in a negative context, as my respect perhaps outweighs some negative opinions about them. This is his opinion, with which I obviously disagree. I have my opinion, but I will not share it because I do not want to delve into the subject,” he added.

Gill Gross recently discussed Novak Djokovic’s response to That of Rafael Nadal The Grand Slam counts down the frustration, describing it as “classic”. Gross made his observations while answering a series of questions sent by tennis fans during “Monday Match Analysis.” podcast.

“So he doesn’t agree with what Rafa said about him, which you would have expected, but you know, he did something that you know is classy, which is- to say, you know, ‘I’m not really going to like getting into a war of words.’ and I’m just going to be very respectful and say I disagree and leave it at that. So, you know, elegant response from Novak, there’s no doubt about it,” Gross said.

“Novak Djokovic’s retirement won’t really happen in the next 2-3 years” – Gill Gross

Group stage of the 2023 Davis Cup final in Valencia

Gill Gross previously said that Novak Djokovic’s retirement, a topic that has been the subject of much speculation, would likely not happen in the next 2-3 years.

Djokovic scored a historic victory in US Open this year, when he defeated Daniel Medvedev at the iconic Arthur Ashe Stadium. In doing so, he won his third Grand Slam title of the year and his 24th major title overall.

With this victory, the Serbian became the first tennis player in the Open Era to win 24 major tournaments, surpassing Serena Williams’ previous record of 23. This remarkable achievement also places him alongside the esteemed Margaret Court, who also won 24 Majors (although some of her titles predate the Open Era).

Responding to another question from a fan, Gill Gross expressed her belief that Novak Djokovic will not retire anytime soon, at least not in the next two to three years.

“When you have Carlos Alcaraz, the Djokovic retirement that you’re referring to isn’t really… It doesn’t look like it’s coming in the next 2-3 years. I mean, who knows, isn’t it? “right? But it’s not there, is it? now. He’s still dominating, so you have Novak at the top, you have Alcaraz at the top,” Gill Gross said.
