Oct. 2—The West High tennis team won the Region IV tournament team title Tuesday, the school’s seventh consecutive regional championship.

The Eagles were victorious with individual titles in the girls’ singles and doubles categories as well as mixed doubles.

In the girls’ singles title match, West’s Lana Cebrian earned a 6-0, 6-0 victory over South’s Veronica Bogdziewicz. The West women’s doubles team of Alice Kim and Sarah Kim topped Chugiak’s Mary Jo Landon and Timber Fleischhacker 6-4, 6-2 in the final.

In mixed doubles, West’s team of Noah Marx and Lavinia Li came out of a one-set hole to win the title. Chugiak’s Jack Latteier and Meadow Lewis won the first set 6-4, but Marx and Li took the second set 6-1 and won the third set tiebreaker 10-6.

In boys’ singles, Service’s Ulysses Escobar defeated West’s Jude Cebrian to win the regional title. Cebrian won the first set 7-5 but was down 4-0 in the second set when he retired due to injury.

In what was the most competitive match of the final, Dimond’s Jack Debenham and Spike Clark dominated West’s Henry Carr and Jack Boots 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (11-9) to win the competition men’s doubles.

The state tennis tournament is Oct. 10-12 at Alaska Club East.
