Cora faces sanctions for suggesting Sox deliberately threw drugs at judge originally appeared on NBC Sports Boston

Alex Cora could face sanctions from Major League Baseball for suggesting that Boston Red Sox intentionally thrown at New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge during Saturday’s match.

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole Red Sox slugger Rafael Devers breaks through with a pitch in the first inning and intentionally made him walk in the fourth. The Sox starter Brayan Bello thrown behind Judge in the sixth.

After Saturday’s match, An angry Cora called Cole and the Yankees for hitting Devers, which he believed was intentional.

“They can say whatever they want. The intentional walk was loud and clear: ‘I don’t want to face him,’” the Red Sox manager said. “The second pitch of the game to Raffy, you see it. It was intentional. I’m not going to back down.”

Cora was asked after Sunday’s series finale if the feud was settled.

“The game ended (Saturday) around the sixth inning,” he replied. “We had our chance. It didn’t happen.”

According to Mark Sanchez of the New York PostMLB is investigating Cora for those comments, which all but confirmed that the Red Sox deliberately threw the ball at Judge in the sixth inning of Saturday’s game.

Judge took the high road after the Yankees’ 5-2 victory on Sunday, although he did take a slight dig at his division rival.

“You play this game for a while, things like this happen,” Judge said. “I know they’re angry. I think three of their players got hit that day. I think they’re just protecting their players. Something has to happen. That’s the way this game has been controlled and policed for 100 years.”

“I think the most important thing is not to miss your shot.”

Boston has lost three of four games to New York, putting the team 4.5 games out of the AL Wild Card race with just 12 games remaining on the schedule. Next, Cora’s club travels to St. Petersburg for a three-game series against the The Tampa Bay Rays.
