Djokovic could continue to win, but ‘the question is whether the desire will still be there’

Former ATP top 10 player Lucas Pouille believes Novak Djokovic is clearly the greatest player of all time after his most recent exploits.

Whether Djokovic is the greatest player of all time doesn’t matter, but it’s a topic that tennis enthusiasts love to talk about. Even though some sports have an undisputed “GOAT,” most of them are a little vague and rely heavily on personal bias.

Some people like Djokovic, some like Rafael Nadal and some like Roger Federer, and that will never change. There might eventually be a statistical consensus, but you will always have individuals who choose their personal favorites ahead of what the statistics say.

As for former Top 10 player Lucas Pouille, he supports Djokovic simply because the numbers are now too impressive to ignore.

Today, he is 36 years old, he has 19, 20 years of career, he has almost 100 titles and he is still just as hungry and what is extraordinary is that he always seems the freshest on the pitch. I think he can play for two, three or even four more years. The question is rather whether the desire will still be there.

The desire to continue to make all these efforts, these sacrifices to be at the highest level. But for me, he still has the energy to play for a very long time. Is Novak Djokovic the greatest? Yes, well yes, the figures speak for themselves. For me, yes, it’s the biggest. It’s the GOAT as they say.

These are probably the least controversial stances Pouille will ever have, because he will find millions of people who agree with him. Even his rival Rafael Nadal admitted recently that Djokovic was the greatest in history in terms of trophies, which is a clever way of putting it.

He is statistically, but does that make him the most influential?
