GUADALAJARA, Mexico (AP) — Martina Trevisan beat eighth-seeded Caroline Dolehide 6-3, 6-2 on Tuesday to advance to the Guadalajara Open.
Trevisan, who lost to Dolehide a year ago in the Guadalajara quarter-finals, next faces local favourite Renata Zarazua on Wednesday.
“Today I came on the court with a lot of energy,” Trevisan said. “For me it was maybe a revenge and tomorrow I have to be ready for Renata. I played against her twice this year. I know her very well.”
Also on Tuesday, Marie Bouzkova beat Alexandra Eala 6-2, 6-2 to advance to a second-round match against Lucrezia Stefanini, who eliminated Ana Sofía Sánchez 6-0, 3-6, 6-2.
Seeded number six, Bouzkova reached the semi-finals in Guadalajara a year ago before losing to eventual champion Maria Sakkari.
In a late match, Marina Stakusic beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova 6-2, 6-4 to set up a meeting with top seed Jelena Ostapenko, who is returning from a Doubles victory at the US Open with Lyudmyla Kichenok.
American Ashlyn Krueger beat Tatjana Maria 7-5, 6-2 and will next face No. 5 seed Magdalena Frech, who won 6-4, 6-4 against Emina Bektas.
In other results, Ena Shibahara beat Kimberly Birrell 6-4, 7-6 (4) to advance to a second-round match against No. 4 seed Caroline Garcia.
