NEW YORK (AP) — Taylor Fritz is seeking her first Grand Slam singles title for an American in 21 yearsand Jannik Sinner will look to win a second major championship of the season when they meet in the US Open final.
Sunday’s title game at Arthur Ashe Stadium is scheduled to start around 2 p.m. ET, two hours earlier than its usual start time.
World No. 1 Sinner has a record of 34-2 on hard courts in 2024, with four titles, including the Australian Open in January. The 23-year-old Italian begins a 10-match winning streak on Sunday. After winning the Cincinnati Open last month, it was revealed he had been cleared in a doping case after testing positive for an anabolic steroid twice in March.
Fritz, the 12th seed and 26-year-old Californian, reached his first major final in surpassing her American compatriot Frances Tiafoe in five sets on Friday. That made Fritz the first American to play for a Grand Slam title since Andy Roddick lost to Roger Federer at Wimbledon in 2009.
Roddick’s victory at the 2003 US Open was the last Grand Slam title for an American.
