There have been some concerns about fans who come to watch a race but are forced to sit in high temperatures for long periods of time in order to enjoy the experience. It’s certainly extremely uncomfortable for everyone, including drivers.
Fortunately, in the recent past, drivers have suggested that NASCAR change day races to night events, so fans can stop cooking in the high heat. The topic seems to have come up once again, as we prepare for the playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway.
Recently, at the press conference before Texas, the RCR pilot Kyle Busch was asked about rumors that the current September race date in Texas could be moved to April. Considering the current weekend’s temperatures are expected to reach 100 degrees, the RCR driver was asked if he believed April would be a preferable time to race or if the existing date suited him.

The two-time Cup Series champion gave a perhaps too honest answer, saying: “Yeah, I mean, for some reason, tell it for what it is… tell the truth – Texas (Motor Speedway) has been really lackluster lately. So, being a playoff race, I’m not sure we’re telling.
Rowdy then said: “I’ve actually seen a lot of people say it shouldn’t be on the calendar, period. All of us drivers would definitely not want it reconfigured into an Atlanta style race track again, but I’m hearing rumors that that’s where it’s headed. So it wouldn’t be fun.
Busch asks NASCAR to ease heat problem for fans
The Richard Childress Racing driver further spoke about how passionate NASCAR fans are about the sport. However, sitting on aluminum grandstands in 100-degree heat is not something he would do willingly.
“But yeah, I think the heat – if you’re strictly talking about weather and heat and stuff like that – look, I give the NASCAR fans all the credit in the world because they’re a pretty damn strong group.”
Despite this, he paid tribute to the fans who endured the heat to support the races. The two-time Cup Series champion stressed that filling the stands was crucial to the success of the sport, as empty crowds wouldn’t make for good television. So he suggested the organizers to make the experience easier for the fans as it would be very beneficial for everyone involved.
