Daria Kasatkina is the first player to oppose trash-talking, as it has become a recent topic with many players supporting it.
It started in Miami when Pegula and Gauff called for more trash talk in tennis, which they consider a fun part of any competition. This is very common in many sports, but it is not so much the case in tennis because it has always been discouraged. The courts are full of microphones so it wouldn’t be a good look for the sport and tennis is very sensitive about its image.
Kasatkina, however, is not in favor of it, which makes her the only major player to have spoken out on the subject and opposed it:
“Tennis is different. I know the fighters, basketball, in the United States it’s a popular thing. We’re not American so we’re not used to it. I was always informed that the Tennis is a smart sport. So I’ll go with that.”
