Victoria Mboko secured her place in the Qatar Open final with a convincing victory over Jelena Ostapenko.
Along the way, she knocked out some notable names, including Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva and Vera Zvonareva.

Mboko has already claimed 13 victories in her first four tournaments of the year – more than anyone on the WTA Tour currently.
And she doesn’t just win victories. Alongside Andreeva, Mboko equaled a 17-year-old WTA record last set by Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka.

Mboko’s appearance in the Qatar Open final secured her a place in the WTA top 10 for the first time in her career.
The Canadian teenager collected 640 points at the tournament, ahead of Ekaterina Alexandrova, Belinda Bencic and her last opponent Karolina Muchova.

Mboko now joins her compatriot Andreeva in the top 10, which has not happened since 2009.
The last time two teenagers were ranked in the top 10 was when Caroline Wozniacki and Victoria Azarenka were climbing the rankings.
Mboko and Andreeva are now following a path blazed by proven champions. Azarenka and Wozniacki won major titles after rising to No. 1 as teenagers.
Azarenka competed at the Australian Open back-to-back in 2012 and 2013, while Wozniacki won her own crown in Melbourne six years later.

Mboko’s rise to the top 10 is nothing short of remarkable, especially considering his starting position just a year ago.

The Canadian started 2025 ranked 333rd in the world, and at the same time last February, she was still outside the top 200.
Her breakthrough came earlier this year when she went on a 22-match winning streak without dropping a single set on the ITF circuit.
She broke into the top 100 in June, then rose to 24th in the world after winning her first WTA title on home soil in Canada.
A title in Hong Kong, a final appearance at the Adelaide International and a round of 16 finish at the Australian Open have all contributed to his steady rise up the rankings.
The Qatar Open final may have propelled Mboko into the top ten, but there is ample evidence that she is not done climbing yet.
