With the 2018 World Cup well underway, we are in the thick of sport this summer. Keep the momentum going in your classroom this fall with sports-themed decor to inspire your MVP list. WeAreTeachers has rounded up the best sports-themed classroom decorating ideas for your viewing (and creative) pleasure. So keep reading for touchdowns, slam dunks, scoring medals and much more. What is your game plan?

Just so you know, WeAreTeachers may collect a share of sales from the links on this page. We only recommend items our team loves!

Try a lawn soccer mat at home.

Transform your classroom into an NFL (Nothing but Fun Learning) field with this football field carpet. Are you feeling ambitious? Take a quick look at this YouTube Tutorial on how to turn artificial turf into a football field, complete with numbered yard lines and customizable end zones—the perfect way to incorporate a little school spirit into your theme.

Turn your whiteboard into a goal post.

Source: Little Miss Party

No football field would be complete without a bright yellow goal post. This simple craft balloon from Little lady’s party is as cute as it is quick, and it’s a great way to draw your students’ attention to your daily lessons (although, be careful, you may need to replace the balloons after a few days).

For something a little more permanent, this PVC pipe goal post from Sugar Bee Crafts is a great model to follow, although of course you will need to adjust the measurements to accommodate a full-size whiteboard, chalkboard, or bulletin board. If you prefer to create your goal posts on a smaller scale, use them as label holders, labels for classroom supplies, etc. by sticking a paper label between the two posts.

We are also crazy about this goal post door decor made from yellow pool noodles. Replicate this door design or frame your whiteboard with these noodles, attaching them to the borders with easily removable elements. Command strips.

Create a sports-themed reading corner.

This affordable and easy-to-make soccer goal Six Sisters Stuff would make a wonderful addition to the classroom, either as a reading nook (if large enough to place cushions or chairs underneath) or as a compartment for books or other classroom supplies. Paint the frame in school colors!

We’d say this reading canoe is too cool for school, but we have to admit we’d love to see it in our classrooms. For the DIY teachers among us, this design can be supplemented with a few two-by-fours and a few lattice panels.

Stay focused with a game plan bulletin board.

Source: Not-So-Wimpy Teacher

Nothing can get your kids’ heads into the game like this awesome focus board. Not so wimpy teacher. Update with daily or weekly goals in math, reading, writing and more. We love the inclusion of an inspirational quote and a sports-themed story of the week.

Source: Busy Bees

This one of Busy bees is a bit more specific, allowing individual students or the entire class to document their goals. Although we haven’t seen the finished product yet, we like the idea of gluing paper footballs or soccer balls to the board labeled with student or class goals.

Create a classroom dashboard.

This class dashboard Mrs. Butterfield’s First Year is not only a great decoration, but also a great way to track AR points, reward positive behavior, and motivate your students to achieve their classroom goals.

Transform your coat storage into a “cloakroom”.

Another of our favorites from Not so wimpy teacher. Transform the locker room into a locker room (or a dugout if you prefer to go with a baseball theme) with a simple gesture that is sure to score points with your students.

Track behavior throughout pulls and runs.

Source: Teach, Dream, Learn

Your students will not want to engage in this classroom behavior management model by Teach, dream, learn. Tape a picture of a baseball field to your whiteboard and record the score of runs and outs below. You get a race when your students are talkative or off-task, and students earn points for their hard work.

Put your students in the Hall of Fame.

Source: Pinterest

Show off your team members with this Hall of Fame photo exhibit Pinterest. Supplies include mini clothespins, large colorful index cards (or construction paper), letter man stickersand a wall adhesive (such as Order strips, the teacher’s best friend).

Try a sports-themed classroom task chart.

This similar Pinterest The design only requires laminated baseball and bat cutouts labeled with classroom tasks and your students’ names. Take a look at the small storage pocket in the lower left corner.

Don’t forget the ceiling.

Just some netting and a few inflatable basketballs will transform your classroom into a space even Michael Jordan would envy. We can’t get enough of this sporting cap of Homesthetic and know that your students will love it too.

Go all the way out with your classroom door.

What do you say about that is on the theme of tennis? Cut the tennis balls in half and label the flames lying around with your students’ names. Game, set, match.

Plus, here are some of our favorite accessories for a sports-themed classroom:

Foam sports balls

Whether it’s stress buster, energy burner or just classroom prizes, your little players will love these! mini foam sports balls.

We saw basketball hoops on classroom doors, above the whiteboard or centered in the reading corner, and we think they are a great way to motivate students to “take a chance” and participate in class.

Paper Lantern Sports Balls

Source: Much

Replicate the pattern above with paper lantern basketballs from a lot. This site also has baseballs, soccer balls, and footballs to hang or display in your classroom.

Whether for classroom decoration or for learning activities (throw the ball to your students when they answer review questions), these inflatable sports balls make a great addition to a sports classroom.

Nothing reflects team spirit better than a few meters from a sports pennant banner. Hang it above your whiteboard or on the door frame. You can also cut a few feet for the front edge of your students’ desks.
