Class of 2026 three-star pro-style quarterback Gavin Sidwar reopens its recruitment. He announced his withdrawal from Rutgers Sunday evening.
Sidwar was signed to the Scarlet Knights since July 1, but has now left as head coach Greg Schianooffensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Kirk Ciarrocca and the rest of the staff knows that he has decided to renege on his commitment.
“After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Rutgers,” Sidwar posted on that it is best that I reopen my recruitment at this time”.
After careful consideration, I have decided to decommit from Rutgers. I appreciate all the coaches and staff who recruited me. There are great people in this building. I think it’s best if I reopen my recruitment at that time. pic.twitter.com/1Z8nHtYx1Y

As a 2026 prospect, there’s still plenty of time before the La Salle College High School (Wyndmoor, Pa.) product has to make a decision, and Sidwar wants to explore his options as his recruitment progresses.
Sidwar wants to visit other programs and make sure he follows the whole process. Out of respect for Rutgers, he doesn’t want to do this while he is still committed to the Scarlett Knights.
“Rutgers was great to me from the moment they started recruiting me, but I felt like I needed to take more visits and didn’t want to do that as a ‘committed’ prospect,” Sidwar said to Rivals about his decision to opt out.
There are no favorites or schools that stick the most right now for Sidwar. He wants to take his time and find the best school for him.
With La Salle off next weekend, Sidwar plans to take a visit somewhere, although he doesn’t yet know exactly which school it will be.
Other schools have shown interest in Sidwar for some time, but even though he has committed to Rutgers, the quarterback has not initiated conversations with those programs. However, that hasn’t stopped college coaches from reaching out to La Salle’s head coach. Brett Gordon.
“I will let the dust settle,” Sidwar said when asked about the upcoming trips. “My coach said the schools were inquiring, but they were respectful of my situation. I’m sure I’ll be at a game next Saturday. I have some time off. I don’t know where yet.”
In addition to Rutgers, Sidwar offers scholarships from Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Pittsburgh, South Florida, Syracuse, Virginia, Virginia Tech And West Virginia.
Sidwar, 6-foot-3, 187 pounds, ranks as Penn State’s 17th-ranked recruit and 33rd-ranked pro-style quarterback in the 2026 cycle.
In 2023, Sidwar set multiple passing records as a sophomore at La Salle by completing 186 of 285 passes (65.2%) for 2,439 yards and 29 touchdowns.
As a junior in 2024, Sidwar helped lead the Explorers to a perfect 10-0 record thus far.
