THE Yankees declined his 2025 club option for RHP Lou Trivino Sunday, making the 33-year-old a free agent.
Trivino was acquired by the Yankees at the trade deadline on August 1, 2022 along with pitcher Frankie Montas of the Oakland A’s.
He went 1-2 with a 1.66 ERA, 22 strikeouts and one save in 21.2 innings in 25 appearances with New York during the 2022 season.
Trivino then avoided arbitration by signing a one-year deal with the team in November of that year. He suffered an elbow injury before the 2023 season and ultimately underwent Tommy John surgery in May, causing him to miss the entire season.
The right-hander was not tendered by the team during the offseason, but later agreed to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million with a $5 million club option for 2025 in February ahead of the 2024 season.
Trivino never pitched for the Yankees during the year, as he remained in the minors and split time between Double-A Somerset and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He owned a 4.91 ERA over 11 appearances in the minors, recording 11 strikeouts over 11.0 IP.
