Women’s tennis roundup: NLS Wildcats get a split Saturday

Sept. 22 — NEW LONDON — The New London-Spicer girls tennis team earned a sweep of Sauk Centre before being swept by Perham/New York Mills as it hosted a triangular Saturday.

Against Perham/NYM, the Wildcats saw two of their doubles matches reach a third set.

Lucy Wallgren and Bella Huwe of Perham/NYM defeated Heidi Taunton and Averie Turner of NLS in a third-set tiebreaker, winning 5-7, 7-5, 10-6 at No. 2 doubles. Miley Anderson and Andie Janke also won in a tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles for Perham/NYM, earning a 5-7, 7-5, 12-10 victory over Olivia Paffrath and Erin Pederson of the Wildcats.

Brooke Glauvitz led the way for the NLS in her win over Sauk Centre. The sophomore won 6-0, 6-0 at second singles against the Mainstreeters’ Emily Wojtanowitz.

Amyra Gamez, Emma Friedel and Leia Farhat were also victorious at Nos. 1, 3 and 4 for the Wildcats.

Jadyn Proehl and Addi Nelson, Taunton and Turner, and Paffrath and Pederson were the doubles winners for the NLS.

The Wildcats host Montevideo at 4 p.m. Monday in New London.

The Dragons picked up two singles wins and two doubles wins in their victory over Staples-Motley in Litchfield.

Maya Wuotila won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles against Heidi Zimmerman of Staples-Motley and Marcella Bruning earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles against Andrea Digiovanni of the Cardinals.

Emma Knudsen and Molly Patten and Emmy Woelfel and Emily Michels also earned wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles for the Dragons.

Litchfield hosts Foley at 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Crookston won the doubles matches to sneak past the Dragons at Litchfield.

Litchfield earned wins from its No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles players. Isla Dille, Maya Wuotila and Emma Wuotila were the winners for the Dragons.
