WNBA Star Sophie Cunningham is doubling down on her take on the United States this offseason.

The Indiana Fever guard, who was traded from the Phoenix Mercury last offseason, is preparing for what she hopes will be a big WNBA regular season in 2026. The WNBA and its players are, of course, in the middle of a massive negotiation. The WNBA needs a new collective bargaining agreement before the 2026 season. Players are hoping for significant raises.

Meanwhile, Cunningham is trending on social media. She went viral for her vision of the United States.

U.S. Congressman Brandon Gill’s wife, Danielle D’Souza Gill, referenced the WNBA star on X, sparking a reaction on Cunningham’s Instagram Story.

Gill, a conservative commentator, praised Cunningham for his unashamed view of the United States as the country is at war with Iran.

“Basketball star Sophie Cunningham refused to criticize America, instead thanking our veterans,” Gill wrote of Cunningham. “’Home of the free thanks to the brave… Thank you to all those who fought and are still fighting’, God bless you, Sophie!”

Cunningham shared the post on his Instagram story, praising the United States of America.

The WNBA star, meanwhile, also spoke out on the state of negotiations with the league.

She wasn’t happy.

“This is a successful business. Why doesn’t the W learn and build on people who are already building this guy? … Our negotiations and all that, how it’s going, it’s like we’re the laughing stock of sports right now. It’s so (expletive) typical,” she wrote.

Cunningham is clearly not afraid to speak out.
