WNBA players voice concerns over growing sex toy problem during games

The WNBA has a rather bizarre and alarming problem on its hands and the players have had enough.

Fans have decided that the new trend in gaming is throwing neon green sex toys onto the field in the middle of the action.

Yes, you read that correctly.

Three times in the past week, a WNBA game was interrupted because a sex toy was thrown from the stands.

It all started during a July 30 match between the Atlanta Dream and the Golden State Valkyries, in the latter stages of the competition in Atlanta.

When the scores were tied and a little less than a minute had passed, the object flew onto the field, narrowly avoiding the players.

The bright green sex toy slid to the front as security moved in and eventually arrested a fan who was charged with disorderly conduct, public indecency/indecent exposure and criminal trespass.

Three days later it happened again.

This time it was the Valkyries facing the Chicago Sky in Chicago.

Midway through the third quarter, play was stopped by the referees after another bright green sex toy was thrown just under the basket.

“Inappropriate” object thrown onto WNBA field

Following the second strike, Indiana Fever star Sophie Cunningham took to X to implore fans to stop the bizarre act.

“Stop throwing dildos on the field…you’ll hurt one of us,” she wrote.

This advice was not heeded, however, as Cunningham found herself the target of the third sex toy strike.

Following a free throw from LA Sparks’ Kelsey Plum on Tuesday, an object came flying into the key and appeared to hit the Fever star.

Cunningham took to social media after the contest.

“No way this thing really hit me,” she posted on Instagram. “I knew I shouldn’t have tweeted that.”

At the same time, in Brooklyn, a fourth sex toy was thrown, but it failed to reach the field, instead hitting another fan in the front rows.

The worrying situation sent social media into a frenzy with clips and memes flooding timelines.

Although the league has increased security and only one arrest has been made, the viral trend doesn’t appear to be stopped anytime soon.

The players, however, have had enough and want more action taken with the offloading of New York Liberty star Isabelle Harrison.

“ARENA SECURITY?! Hello??! Please do better. This is not funny. This has never been funny,” Harrison posted. “Throwing ANYTHING on the field is so dangerous. »

LA Sparks coach Lynne Roberts condemned the fans’ behavior.

“It’s ridiculous. It’s stupid. It’s stupid,” she said.

“It’s also dangerous, and you know, player safety is the number one priority, respect for the game, all those things.

“I think it’s really stupid.”

It’s not just players who are fed up with fans expressing their displeasure with this alarming trend and calling on the league to do more.

Ashley Nicole Moss of CBS Sports wrote on X: “This dildo situation at these WNBA games is insane…I can’t even believe I’m tweeting this. It’s not even funny anymore.”

The WNBA and law enforcement are not taking this alarming trend lightly, with the league noting that a minimum one-year ban would be imposed along with police charges.

“The safety and well-being of everyone in our arenas is a top priority for our league. Objects of any kind thrown onto the court or into seats can pose a safety risk to players, game officials and fans,” the WNBA said in a statement.

“In accordance with WNBA Arena safety standards, any fan who intentionally throws an object onto the court will be immediately ejected and face a minimum one-year ban in addition to being arrested and prosecuted by local authorities.”
