The Illinois Fighting Illini look to bounce back from their first loss in nearly three months when they host the Wisconsin Badgers tonight.
The Illini lost a hard-fought overtime game at Michigan State, but now return home to face a Wisconsin team that is just 1-5 against Quad-1 opponents and suffered a heartbreaking loss at Indiana on Saturday.

Wisconsin vs. Illinois best bet: Illinois -11.5 (-110)
THE Illinois battles the Illini The offensive works with a level of efficiency that a German automaker would envy. He ranks in the Top 30 in points scored per game despite a pace of 260, according to Bart Torvik.
That’s why the Illini lead the nation in adjusted offensive efficiency (ADJOE) and have actually seen that number rise in conference play, where they average 1.33 points per possession.

It’s also why they just scored 82 points in an overtime loss to Michigan State. They posted an ADJOE metric of 1.39 against one of the best defenses in the country, despite a terrible game from Keaton Wagler.
And while the Wisconsin Badgers are not to be outdone in this category, ranking 29th in ADJOE, there is a clear gap between the two at the other end of the floor. While the Badgers rank a respectable 60th in adjusted defensive efficiency, the Illini rank 22nd.
The main reason for the difference is that the Badgers are allowing an eFG% of 50.3% on the season, a mark that has increased to 51.6% against their Big Ten opponents. Compare that to Illinois, whose 48.8% eFG defense in conference ranks third among all Big Ten teams and leads the nation with the lowest free throw rate against.
Add in Illinois’ obvious advantage on the glass, and you have a mismatch across the board. The Illini defend the interior at a high level, limit their opponents to just one possession, then score on the other end. They have the highest outside shooting rate in the Big Ten and rank second in the conference in receiving second chance opportunities.

Wisconsin forces the second-fewest turnovers in the Big Ten and won’t get enough stops to keep this game close. Without an elite offense to follow, this game will elude the Badgers as Illinois wins by at least 14.
Parlay Wisconsin vs Illinois in the same game
David Mirkovic is shooting 41.8% from downtown in Big Ten play for an Illinois team that shoots at will from long range. He only hit one triple against Michigan State, but he’s hit two or more in each of his last four home games.
Mirkovic should also have a big night on the glass. His 8.1 rebounds per game pace the Illini, and Wisconsin just got worked on the glass by an Indiana team that is mediocre in that area. He is good for several offensive rebounds per game and will be a problem for the Badgers inside.
