The Senators of Ottawa found themselves in an unknown territory before the four nations break.
Their record of 29-23-4 gave the team 62 points and the unique possession of the first joker seed of the Eastern Conference. With 16 of their 26 remaining games played at home, senators should be in the driver’s headquarters and have control of their destiny of the playoffs.
However, this does not mean that it will be easy.
In a closely disputed eastern conference, there is a JAM of teams surrounding the senators. The senators are six points back, the two head points in the Atlantic division, the Maple Leafs, but the six teams below them in the classification are all within five points.
In recent weeks, two major professions have been made which could have lasting implications for the race at the Eastern Conference.
