INDIANAPOLIS — Butler Basketball fans might see some Indiana Fever player among them during games this winter at Hinkle Fieldhouse.
Star recruit Caitlin Clark said Tuesday that she plans to attend a few Butler games after her boyfriendConnor McCaffery was hired as assistant coach for the Bulldogs.
She might even become something of a fan, but not at the expense of her local Hawkeyes.
“It’ll be fun to go watch those games,” Clark said. “I love college basketball, and he’s obviously been around it his whole life and invested a lot in it. It’ll be fun, it’ll give me something to do throughout the offseason as well, it’ll give me someone to cheer for, but it’ll always definitely be ‘Go Hawks.’”

McCaffery and Clark began dating while both were still at Iowa. McCaffery played six years for his father, Fran McCaffery, on the men’s basketball team from 2018-23. Connor then became the basketball development coordinator for the Indiana Pacers for the 2023-24 NBA season, assisting with the scout team and video operations.
Clark played her final college season at Iowa in 2023-24 and reunited with McCaffery in Indianapolis when she was drafted No. 1 overall by the Fever.
Now, both will still be able to stay within city limits as McCaffery gets a promotion. McCaffery will also get the chance to coach both of his brothers as an assistant at Butler; his younger brother, Patrick, transferred to Butler Iowa for the 2024-25 season, and Jack commits to Bulldogs in 2025.
“I’m super happy for him, he’s obviously got a good basketball background and it’s fun to bounce ideas off of him,” Clark said. “I’m just super proud, he’s worked really hard for this.”
And Clark will continue to have a shooting partner, someone she says she can consistently beat.
“It’s really something we enjoy, coming out here and shooting late at night, doing shooting competitions,” Clark said. “It gets a little tense, I’m shooting harder than him, but he’s trying to think differently.”
