Nika Mühl She knows her rookie season didn’t go the way fans hoped. But she says that’s OK.

On September 1, with the Seattle Storm locked in a tight six-point battle with the Connecticut Sun in the fourth quarter, chants of “Nika! Nika!” The final whistle sounded in the Mohegan Sun zone. But with just under four minutes to play and the stakes so high, Muhl couldn’t see the field.

But the moment reflected the frustration of fans, many of whom were Storm and UConn fans, who wanted to see more of the 14th-overall draft pick. (Muhl is averaging just 2.6 minutes this season.) According to Maggie Vanoni of CT InsiderThe former Husky is in no rush to play more. Here’s what she shared with Vanoni:

“Our coach reminds us every day: ‘You’re one of 144,’” Muhl said. “That’s not a lot of spots considering how many talented, hardworking women are in this league who aren’t playing right now.”

“So I remind myself every morning when I wake up that even though I don’t get a lot of minutes, it’s still a huge blessing to be a part of this program, especially being a part of the Seattle Storm.”

“Everybody looks at not playing as something horrible and bad, but behind the scenes I’m giving it my all,” Mühl said. “I’m learning so much, I’m watching video all the time, I’m learning from the best players in the world, great coaches. I’m not missing out. I’m just enjoying the process. And this is my journey, and this is how it’s supposed to be.”
