Kevin Durant doesn’t expect a statue in front of the Chase Center anytime soon.
In fact, he doesn’t expect any of his current or former NBA teams to honor him with a statue.
Durant appeared on Wednesday’s episode of “Up & Adams Show,” where he explained to Kay Adams why he doesn’t believe he deserves a statue outside the arenas in Oklahoma City, Golden State, Brooklyn and Phoenix , the four current teams. Durant played for.

“I highly doubt a statue of me will be placed anywhere playing basketball,” Durant said. “I appreciate the love and respect people have shown me, though. That’s enough for me.
“…It’s usually these guys that have a Hall of Fame career with the championships and you’ve been in a city for a long time. That’s not the case for me, but I’ve been able to see it for a few others guy in the league.”
Durant spent nine seasons of his current 17-year NBA career with the Thunder (2008-2016), where he won the 2013-14 MVP award, but reached the NBA’s highest peak with the Warriors, winning two championships, including two NBA Finals MVPs. awards (2017, 2018) in just three seasons with Golden State.
Durant has since spent three-plus seasons with the Nets (2019-2023) and Suns (2023-current), without a league appearance in either city.
Miami Heat legend Dwayne Wade, who recently was honored with a statue outside the Kaseya Center last week, believes Durant is one of three current players, including former Warriors teammate Steph Curry and Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, who are next in line for the statues.
“The three stars are still in our game,” Wade said of the likelihood of Durant, Curry and James receiving statues. “And there are others that could be in that group, but when you talk about winning championships, you talk about changing the game, you talk about just being unique. There are so many characteristics that come into it. game to get a statue – it’s not just about being good.
“When you talk about your work outside of basketball, what do you do? How do you change communities? I think these people do these things in so many different ways. And that’s why these three guys are to me came (to mind). It’s not just because they have buckets.
Durant, humbly and respectfully, disagrees.
“I (saw Wade’s comments) yesterday. I don’t agree with (him) but I appreciate him putting me in that category with two other guys who will probably get statues in the cities where they played,” Durant shared with Adams.
While many believe Durant could realistically have his jersey retired with the Thunder and Warriors At some point in the future, some wondered if a statue commemorating the iconic photo of Golden State’s back-to-back championship-winning core, featuring him, Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala, might be a fitting tribute for a statue outside the Chase Center.
If so, Durant will get a statue. Technically.
