This past weekend was huge for Penn State on the recruiting trail.
Since they wouldn’t have another game in Happy Valley until November 2 against Ohio State, it would have been a little over a month since the Nittany Lions would host a home game after hosting UCLA last weekend .
Because of this, James Franklin and his team took the opportunity to obtain part of their reversed goals for 2025 on campus ahead of the early signing date of Dec. 4, as many recruits across the country who had committed to programs elsewhere are beginning to change their minds.
Penn State welcomed four high-profile players, including a cornerback Josh Johnson who looked like a lock to join this class before shockingly committing to Louisville.
But following his trip to campus last weekend, there’s real momentum building for the Nittany Lions as he announced on social networks that he decommitted from the Cardinals to reopen his recruitment.
things could go fast NOW.
Ryan Snyder of On3 previously predicted that the 6-foot-2, 185-pound three-star cornerback will now commit to Penn State. Franklin and staff continued to stay in contact with him when he was committed elsewhere, never giving up despite the frustrating decision made earlier. Johnson has said he doesn’t want to delay his recruitment any further, so there’s a real chance he could announce his decision to the Nittany Lions very soon (subscription required).
Penn State believes he can be a versatile member of their secondary, potentially starting him at cornerback before moving to safety later in his career when he fills in a bit more.
This would be huge since the three star security Antonio Branch moved from Penn State to Colorado this left a void in their classroom.
Getting Johnson involved would be huge, and based on this information, it appears the Nittany Lions could get their first flip target this past weekend.
