That of Brad Pitt F1 The film did something that no other Formula 1 film has been able to do in the United States: it became a mainstream blockbuster rather than a niche racing drama. At the North American box office, the film grossed approximately $189.5 million out of a worldwide total of $631.5 million, making it the highest-grossing racing film worldwide. But how does it compare to other racing films in the United States?
In the American market in particular, F1 sits at the very top of the big pile of motorsport films. This includes the likes of James Mangold’s famous film Ford vs. Ferrariwhich topped its speedometer at $117.6 million nationally, and that of Ron Howard Rushingwhich only reached $26.9 million in the United States and Canada.
Or F1 is losing out to family and comedy titles. Pixar Cars remains the national champion with $244.1 million, while Cars 2 saw an impressive $191.5 million. Will Ferrell’s NASCAR comedy Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby is located a little further, at 148.2 million dollars, and that of Tom Cruise Thunder days earned $82.7 million.

This makes F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski, the third-largest car racing film at the North American box office, behind only the two Cars movies. This is comfortably the best live entry.
Globally, the situation looks a little different, mainly due to increased foreign interest in the championship. Global, F1 exceeds Cars 2 to become the highest-grossing racing film in the world and one of the highest-earning sports films of all time. It also became the highest-grossing film of Pitt’s career.
The figures above have not been adjusted for inflation, causing older titles like Talladega Nights and Thunder days potentially performing better, but the numbers still paint a strong picture of the Lewis Hamilton-produced film.
