Bloomington – The best version of this year Indiana women’s basketball team appeared at the first quarter of the Saturday match against Purdue at the Assembly Hall.

THE Hoosiers lost 30 points on their rival while pulling 60% in the field. They took a 20-2 lead even before some fans had a chance to settle in their seats.

While all those who walked on the ground have contributed, Garzon was the clear catalyst for their success. The junior striker eliminated the shots on three consecutive possessions in the first minutes, including a 3 -point pointer to mark the first seven points of his team.

Garzon finished the 78-56 victory With 18 points (7 out of 12), eight rebounds, four assists and two interceptions. It was the type of performance inspired that escaped him during the recent IU road trip.

She was detained aimlessly during the first half of A 70-67 defeat against Michigan February 12 – She only tried four shots in 34 minutes – while turning him more than five times. The Hoosiers abandoned their heads in the last two minutes of the match.

Garzon made sure that there was no disappointment in Bloomington.

“I thought today she was out and that she was more aggressive,” said Indiana coach Teri Moren. “She can score in many different ways, we just need her to have this mentality with which she had today, as I said, to be more aggressive.”

It has an average of 16.1 points out of 47.7% shooting (48.1% on a 3 -point range) in the 15 IU victories this season and only 9.8 points out of 30.9% shooting (22%) in its nine defeats. The Hoosiers have a sheet of 14-2 when Garzon scores 18 points or more in his first year and 7-2 this season.

“We need her. We need its consistency, ”said Moren. “We need it to be aggressive for us because it helps us so much, not only offensively, but also defensively.”

It is more important than ever with IU who embarks on a section with matches against three consecutive opponents who will make or surge its chances of making the NCAA tournament of this year. The Gauntlet begins with a match against n ° 9 of Ohio State Thursday evening at the Assembly Hall.

Moren has highlighted areas where hosiers must be more consistent – fewer reversals, crushing the boards and a solid defense – but their simplest path to the tournament will be Garzon as she did against Purdue.

“She can score in many different ways, we just need her to have this mentality she had today,” said Moren.
