In the first rankings, the SEC and Big Ten took the majority of the top spots in the projected playoff bracket. This domination shows the strength of these conferences, the schedules and the quality of the victories during the first 10 weeks of the season. Four SEC teams – Georgia, Texas, Tennessee and Alabama – earned a spot, as did Big Ten schools Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State and Indiana.
The remaining teams in the first 12-team bracket: No. 4 Miami, No. 9 BYU, No. 10 Notre Dame and No. 12 Boise State.

How many teams will make the 2024 College Football Playoff?
During the 2024-25 season, 12 teams will qualify for the College Football Playoff. The top five conference champions will get automatic bids, guaranteeing the top five seeds. The top seven remaining teams will complete the 12-team field.
How does the College Football Playoff format work?
The new 12-team College Football Playoff will consist of four conference champions, who will get bids one through four. The top four teams will receive a first-round bye and advance directly to the quarter-finals. The remaining eight ranked teams will also earn spots in the 5-12 team bracket and play on the home field of the higher-ranked team.
