The official Euro 2024 The song is now out on all streaming platforms ahead of the upcoming tournament. Germany is set to host the massive competition which will begin on June 14.
This will be the third time in the history of the European Championship that matches will be played in Germany. The country previously hosted the tournament in 1988. Four Euro 2020 matches were also played in Munich.
The new song, titled “Fire,” is a collaboration between three renowned musical groups. Italian electric trio Meduza headlines the anthem.
Meduza had already caused a sensation with her debut album titled “Piece of Your Heart” in 2019. The album was an immediate success and eventually achieved platinum certification here in the United States.
“Now more than ever, the power of music to unite us is undeniable,” Meduza said. said on the album’s release. “As huge football fans, we are delighted to combine our passion for the game with our music for UEFA Euro 2024.”
Euro 2024 organisers announce new social media campaign
In addition to the electronic trio, OneRepublic and German singer-songwriter Leony also collaborated to create this track. Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic, wrote the Euro 2024 song. Just like Meduza, the pop rock band also has a platinum album to its name. “Native” was released in 2013 and included the hit “Counting Stars” as one of the band’s most successful singles.
Tournament organisers have also unveiled a new social media campaign called #LightYourFire. The initiative will offer fans the chance to win tickets to the tournament final. Football fans are invited to share their passion for music and sport using the hashtag across UEFA’s various social media platforms.
“Today is a special day with the release of ‘Fire,’” said Tedder. “We wrote it for football and music fans around the world, hoping it will inspire and unite us as we approach UEFA Euro 2024. The #LightYourFire campaign is an invitation to fans everywhere to join us on this journey.”
Leony is currently a huge success in her home country of Germany. This collaboration makes perfect sense given that the tournament is set to kick off in Munich next month. The talented singer scored her first German platinum record with the single “Paradise” in 2020. Leony then enjoyed similar success once again two years later with “Remedy.”
A popular song from the 80s also used by the host country in preparation for the tournament
The European Championship organisers have been using an official song for the tournament since 1992. The most recent anthem to be released from the competition is “We Are the People” by Dutch DJ Martin Garrix. In addition to Garrix, the song also featured Bono and Edge from legendary Irish rock band U2.
UEFA has chosen “Fire” as the anthem for the upcoming tournament, but the competition will also feature an unofficial song. Peter Schilling’s 1980s hit “Major Tom” has been sung by fans at Germany’s recent games. The vintage record was also recently used in the team’s Adidas Euro 2024 kit.
