KNOXVILLE − A black Nike backpack with the word “GEORGIA” spelled out in red hanging from it Stephon shivers” substantial shoulders Thursday as he stood in line waiting to enter the Brentwood Academy changing room before night Victory 63-26 against the Catholics of Knoxville.
The 6-foot-5, 366-pounder a child who had a full beard in seventh grade pledged allegiance to head coach Kirby Smart and Bulldogs end of March, but recently “reopened” its recruitment.
As a result, the three-star defensive lineman found himself visiting Vanderbilt last weekend and I witnessed the Wild victory for the Commodores 40-35 against top-ranked Alabama.
“You can’t count the underdogs,” Shivers said The Tennessean THURSDAY. “I just went to see what they were talking about.
“I realized you couldn’t rule out any team, no matter who they were. You had to go out there and play football.”
Shivers said he saw a goal post from the stadium go down Broadway and later in the Cumberland River on social media.
“It was crazy,” he said. “I had to get out of there before all this started happening.”
Shivers said he remains committed to Georgia, but he wants to see what other opportunities might come his way before early signing day in December.
“I thought about it a little bit,” he said of Vanderbilt. “My family and I will think about it more.”
Shivers said he plans to attend the Georgia-Texas game on Oct. 19.
Shivers posted the update on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday, saying “without further ado, I am reopening my recruiting process.” He then added a message saying, “I’m still engaged! »
Shivers, which transferred to BA this year, from Humboldt, also has offers from schools such as Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan, Oregon, Tennessee and Texas.
