West Ham middle attracting the attention of Bundesliga
West Ham United could separate from the Mexican international Edson Álvarez this summer, the German heavy goods vehicles from Borussia Dortmund would have now aroused their interest. As London world Revealed: “The German giants of Borussia Dortmund would have contacted the agents of a West Ham player in order to anticipate a summer transfer.”
Álvarez, who arrived from Ajax in 2023 for 32.3 million pounds sterling, struggled to nail a constant starting role under Graham Potter. Despite 25 championship appearances this season – 19 of them from the start – he seems to sit on the sidelines of Potter’s long -term plans.

Sources close to the club suggest that Dortmund is one of several European teams who follow Álvarez, with interests that are also built in France. Its versatility and physicality have long appealed to clubs across the continent, but West Ham can now see it as a means of generating funds for their own reconstruction.
Potter’s West Ham project is starting to take shape
It was a transitional season at the London Stadium. Graham Potter inherited an assembled team for Julen Lopetegui and has not yet completely imposed his vision. Although the results have not improved considerably, there is an air of patience around the club – an understanding that summer will bring the clarity and the changes required.
Potter himself admitted so much after the 2-2 draw with Bournemouth: “I understand where the crowd is because we did not do well enough at home … But I think that if they can see something, the crowd puts behind us and then, as I said, it is a fantastic atmosphere and really pushes the team.”
The summer window, considered a more affordable and flexible period for business, is when the real transformation is expected. As London World notes, “many have been made of West Ham possible signatures this summer, with many linked players, but we will also see several outings to make room for these debts.”

The rules of profit and sustainability are looming
While the Premier League clubs continue to navigate the regulations on profits and durability, West Ham, like many, must sell to buy. The sale of Álvarez could perfectly serve this goal. He is a player with a European pedigree and a resale value that could comfortably finance several reinforcements.
Although he has shown quality lightning – especially in the control of midfielder transitions – Potter has not yet fully trusted. In a system based on the movement of fluids and position discipline, the game of Álvarez does not yet seem to be the right adjustment. If he would prosperate in a league like the Bundesliga, where the transition game is more direct, is a question that Dortmund may soon have the chance to answer.
The rebalancing of the team must follow the summer exodus
With an intermediate finish which seems inevitable, West Ham is likely to prioritize the reshaping of their hearts. Álvarez is not the only player in the face of an uncertain future. The club has already shown signs of meticulous budgeting, as we see in January when they chose to have Evan Ferguson lent rather than engaging in high winter expenses.

If Álvarez leaves, it will be a strategic sale rather than a panic decision – a step calculated towards giving Potter a squad really constructed in its image.
Our point of view – Analysis of the EPP index
For West Ham fans, this news can sting – but it will not be a shock. Álvarez had solid moments, but he has never completely taken command of midfielder fights like the supporters hoped when he joined Ajax. In some respects, his role in West Ham was more functional than in influence.
There is no doubt that he is a tidy player, one with the experience to hold on. But with Potter clearly looking for technical and progressive midfielder options, fans can see the potential sale of Álvarez as a logical decision – especially if it releases funds to land players better suited to the manager’s vision.
Supporters will rightly ask for reinvestment. Priority should be a central midfielder who can dictate the tempo, go under pressure and anchor a side that is often struggling in transitions. If the release of Álvarez finances this evolution, it could be a positive step.
But the timing will be everything. West Ham cannot afford to lose established names without a clear and coherent recruitment plan. Fans will support the changes – but only if the table does them well.
