This past Monday, ESPN debuted the new Monday Night Football theme song.
The song, a cover of Phil Collins’ hit “In the Air Tonight,” is performed by Chris Stapleton, Snoop Dogg and Cindy Blackman Santana.
Can you feel it? ????

Where does it fit in the pantheon of sports-themed songs? Here’s what our hosts thought.

The Monday Night Football theme is iconic, perhaps the greatest football theme of all time. So you have to be careful. I know there are now mostly themes and “anthems,” so you have a little more leeway. And what better trio than Stapleton, Snoop and Cindy B. Santana?
Basically, Chris could sing the phone book and it would be awesome. He is one of the best new music content producers of all time.
If you are unfamiliar or unfamiliar with his work, watch the video below. This is basically the coolest musical performance in the last 10 years. No, I’m not kidding.

I don’t need to say anything about Snoop. It’s an ICON. And with CBS on the drums, you’re appealing to a WIDE audience.
Now add in the 80s, it’s a Phil Collins classic, and you’ve got almost all the demos covered.
Also, did you know that Phil Collins sang one half of the most underrated duet of all time? No seriously, it amazes me how many people didn’t know this song or who simply forgot this song. Construction at the end? The chef’s kiss.

Anyway, well done music friends. You did well. Also, if you haven’t heard Post Malone’s college football anthem, “Give Me Something Real,” listen to it now. It’s worth the full song. Anytime you have a choir and Fur Elise screams, it’s all good. Some of his best work.

Now I’m giving you almost 20 minutes of music to listen to while you’re bored. Go listen.

I was surprised by the new Monday Night Football anthem. Mainly because I generally prefer to leave a good thing alone. Personally, I’m a big fan of the original Phil Collins song, but their version of “In the Air Tonight” was fabulous. Chris Stapleton is truly amazing, Cindy Blackman Santana crushes it on the drums and Snoop makes everything a little better. I liked it. It’s a banger.

There are a lot of things I’ll think about when I hear “In The Air Tonight.” Phil Collins, Mike Tyson, the epic drum solo. Monday Night Football will not be one of them.
I would have loved a new original MNF song. A song that celebrates the rich and unique history of Monday Football! Instead, we get an overrated, half-baked, unnecessarily garish piece of…nothing.
Where does it rank among other TV sports themes of all time? Let me put it like this: ABC’s 1970s PGA Tour theme, “Love’s Theme”ranks much higher.
In the words of the late David Stern: “Poorly conceived, poorly executed…and poorly produced.” »

I will never be upset to hear the drums on “In the Air Tonight.” Try to hear this and don’t get excited. It’s still not on the level of the Sunday Night Football theme trumpets, but it’s still great. Chris Stapleton and Snoop is the combo I didn’t know I needed. 9.5/10
