The Englishman Dale Whitnell carded two holes in one during a unique round on the second day of the South African Open.
The 36 -year -old man, including DP World Tour Breakthrough came to Scandinavian Mixed 2023, access 179 yards in second position in soft and calm conditions at the Country Club Durban, then repeated the feat at 129 yards.
It is estimated that the chances of making two holes in one in the same round are 67 million to one.
At one point, Whitnell, who immediately followed his first Ace with an eagle, needed birdies in his last three holes to make a 59 card, but this quest collapsed after stolen the 16th green.
By trying to participate in Birdie of an awkward side lie, the club’s head completely slipped under the ball and moved it only a few centimeters and he took three other shots to get up and down for a double Bogey.
He signed for nine under 63, after pulling a level of peer in the first round.
Although the chances of double aces are high, there have been a number of cases.
English colleague John Hudson recorded two to the Martini international of the European Tour in Royal Norwich in 1971.
Brian Harman, who would become open champion in 2023, became the third man to achieve the feat on the PGA Tour with two aces in Barclays in 2015, while last year, Frank Bensel Jnr made consecutive holes in the second round of the American Senior Open in Rhode Island.
“I struck an iron seven to seven from the second and I did not know that they had entered until they applauded,” said Whitnell, which took 11 years to win a card of the DP World Tour after having become a professional in 2009, in his post-round interview.
βIt is a strange feeling. Obviously, adrenaline pumps, but you have to focus on your work and I managed to do it today.
βI never got it in the tournament. I had one in practice at the national golf course in Paris, but having two in one day is quite special.
“I had everything today: an air shot, two bogeys, one double, three eagles and I came out of nine pennies, so I can’t complain.”
