Warsaw wins first women’s golf section in 12 years; Richmond, NorthWood medalists

WINONA LAKE – Led by Abbey Peterson’s par 71, the Warsaw High School girls golf team won the Indiana High School Athletic Association Warsaw girls golf sectional Thursday, played at the 5,204-yard Stonehenge Golf Club.

Coach Jack Carpenter’s Tigers, who received honorable mention honors in the latest Indiana High School Golf Coaches Association poll, beat Northern Lakes Conference rival NorthWood 335-359 for Warsaw’s first sectional title in 12 years.

The Panthers were led by Sophie Richmond, who also matched par 71 and won the play-off with Peterson for medalist honours.

Lilly Henderson shot an 84, teammates Claire Reust and Addisyn Aylor had 89s and Lucy Ray had a 94 for Warsaw. Joey Slone had an 83, Leah Rowe had a 99, Marley Jordan had a 106 and Jordyn LeHane had a 112 for coach Jordan Anglemyer’s Panthers, who finished 19 shots ahead of third-place Culver Academies.

Warsaw, NorthWood and Culver academies advance to the East Noble Regional on Saturday, Sept. 28, at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville. Tippecanoe Valley’s Savana Miller, who shot a 7-over-par 78, and two golfers who shot 97s, Samantha Ton of Bremen and Ava Couture of Wawasee, also advance as individuals.
