Jefferson remains extremely focused on strengthening his hamstrings and also pays close attention to how his body responds. So far, so good, but that doesn’t mean he’ll be back overnight (Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell told reporters this week it’s unlikely that Jefferson plays on Sunday).
“It all depends on how I feel and how strong the hamstring is. Hamstring is a tough injury because it persists,” Jefferson told reporters Thursday. “It comes up from time to time if you don’t treat it right. The guys and the rest of the coaching staff in this building know my value on the field. They want me 100 percent. Like me too “I don’t I don’t want to go 80, 90 percent and have the chance to get hurt again. It’s day by day, like I said, and when that time comes, I’ll definitely be ready to hit the ground running. “
Beginner Jordan Addison has done a remarkably good job filling in for Jefferson, catching 28 passes for 349 yards and five touchdowns over his last five games. But the Vikings drafted Addison with the vision of him playing a strong, complementary role alongside Jefferson, not as the Vikings’ best pass-catching option.
We hope these two will be reunited before long. This would go a long way to helping whoever takes the starting snaps under center (this week it’s Josh Dobbs) following the loss of Kirk Cousins has a Season-ending Achilles injury. But until then, patience remains the most important word.
