Minnesota Vikings quarterback JJ McCarthy underwent a second surgery on his injured right knee.
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell confirmed the procedure while speaking to reporters Wednesday.
McCarthy, whom the Vikings selected with the 10th pick in April’s NFL draft, was operated on for the first time in August to repair the meniscus in his right knee. This procedure sidelined him for his entire rookie season. McCarthy was injured in his preseason debut.
The second surgery was to treat swelling in his knee since he returned to activity after his first operation. According to ESPN’s Kevin Seifert, McCarthy received an injection of biologic as part of the second procedure.
The timetable for McCarthy’s return remains the same, according to O’Connell. His initial prognosis had him on track to be ready for the 2025 season.
