Minnesota Vikings starting quarterback Sam Darnold will appeal to his experience with the 49ers in 2023 to help him on Sunday.
The 27-year-old has backed down Brock Purdy last season and facing San FranciscoThe elite defense every day in training.
Darnold spoke to reporters Wednesday about how his routine battles with the 49ers’ linebackers and defensive backs will help him in the Week 2 game at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.
“Just seeing them every day, I think it really helps,” Darnold said.Thank you to the Minnesota Vikings). “I just want to see the defense. I’m sure they’ll have different things. But I’m really excited about the opportunity.”
A seven-year NFL veteran, Darnold has played for four different teams. San Francisco’s appearance in Super Bowl LVIII, however, was his first and only appearance in the league’s premier event so far.
Darnold had daily reps against the NFL Pros like Fred Warner And Charvarius districtwhich leads the quarterback to learn a lot about himself and his schemes, even without guaranteed playing time each week.
“Their physicality and their speed” were cited by Darnold as two standout aspects of the 49ers’ defense. “Obviously, they have a great system and they play it really, really well. … The different ways they’re able to hide coverages presents some problems — obviously, schematically, but to a quarterback’s eye. If you hook too many times, there’s also a pretty good pass rush that comes at you.”
“Fred is a great player. They have great players all over the defense. Fred is in the middle and can fly everywhere and make plays like he does, attack the ball like he does, it’s hard to find a better player than him in that position.”

Darnold has made the most of his experience with the 49ers. And because of that, he’s ready to confront his old friends When it matters.
