DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Mack Trucks has become the new official carrier of NASCAR, providing a fleet of custom-designed vehicles to transport the sport’s equipment and technology between racetracks across the country.
The announcement of the multi-year deal was made here Feb. 16 during the Daytona 500 media day.
“Mack and NASCAR are two fundamentally American brands, and we couldn’t be more excited to join forces and serve as the ‘Official Carrier of NASCAR,'” said John Walsh, Mack vice president of marketing. .
The official announcement of the partnership was made in the packed media room at Daytona International Speedway, home of NASCAR’s most prestigious race which begins the season each February.
Walsh was joined by Steve Phelps, executive vice president of NASCAR. He shared his thoughts on the importance of trucks to the sport, which must create a “week-to-week mini-Super Bowl.”
“It certainly makes our sport much more unique than stick and ball sports because the infrastructure is already there,” Phelps said. “You take everything you need and fly to a particular city – ours is by truck. »
As part of the deal, Mack provided NASCAR with 11 Pinnacle sleeper models, 10 of which will be in service throughout the 36-race, 10-month season. The extra tractor is kept in reserve when maintenance is required.
