Two of the PGA Tour stories are the best stories “Out of Nowhere” rallied late Sunday to force a playoff series.
Steven Alker’s trip is well known now. He was on Monday in a Champions event in Seattle, transformed him into a top 10, and before you know, he had nine first 10 and a victory during his 2021 season. He then won the Charles Schwab Cup in 2022 and 2024.
Club Jason Caron’s pro has not yet accumulated Alker’s level of success, but its path has been similar.
In the PGA Senior Professional Championship of 2023, he finished tied to the 32nd, which was good enough to win a place in the PGA Senior Kitchenaid 2024 championship. He would be binding for fourth place, which brought him to several championship events. In 2024, he would play in eight of that moment, would cut seven of them, including three top four.
He would continue to reach the final of the Champions Tour season in Phoenix last November, which also guaranteed his tour card in 2025. “I am not really supposed to be here,” he then told the Phoenix Country Club, but he continues to do his best to prove that it is wrong.
So it’s their stories. Sunday at La Paloma Country Club in Tucson, Alker and Caron each displayed 66 s to finish equally at 12 years after the regulations, forcing a qualifying series in the CLASSIC 2025 CLOCUARD.
Caron observed the 16th, 17th and 18th holes to get there. Alker Birdie the 15th, 16th and 17th, while each man found Greg Chalmers, the chief of 18 and 36 holes. Sunday, Chalmers stuck two of his last seven holes and was satisfied with a 71 to finish 11 sous, equally with another roommate of the stem, the two men short of Bonus golf.
The playoffs between Alker and Caron did not last long. They returned to the 18th hole and Alker observed it while Caron was peeling.
It is the ninth victory of Alker and the 58th TOP-10 in 78 departures on the Champions Tour.
“It’s huge. What, 13, 14 months since my last victory. Just to overcome this obstacle and get this one,” he said. “The game felt good, just consistent week after week. This is what I want, just to give me a chance. To move forward, I have a Schwab cup to defend, so I have to do it.”
Alker had two bogeys in his first seven holes but responded with four birdies and an eagle in his last 10.
“It’s very fun. And the competition becomes so good. The Australians come out and the new blood, so it’s fine.
“You must continue to get better.”
Stewart Cink celebrates the revelation of the genre with the color of the shirt
Stewart Cink was also in Tucson this week and before the final round, he made a gender revelation to the camera.
His son (and a single shopping cart) Reagan and his wife Olivia were due in September and before the start of Sunday’s action, Cink had a pink and a blue polo shirt on his bed, then opened an envelope to announce a boy or a girl.
Spoiler alert if for those who have not watched the video: it’s going to be a boy.
