Ashland girls tennis competed in the Division I sectional tournament Oct. 3-5 at Fremont Ross High School, and two doubles teams qualified for this week’s district tournament.
Hannah Miller and Elena Haynes won the sectional title, and Claire Sharick and Mya Donatini placed third overall. Miller and Haynes entered the sectional tournament as the No. 1 seed and Sharick and Donatini were the No. 2 seed. Each team received a bye in the first round.

Miller and Haynes beat Tiffin Columbian’s Carlea Adams and Kylee Oyster 6-4, 6-3 in their first match, then won against Clay’s Ellie Haynes and Erin Mentzer 6-0, 6-3 in the next round. In the sectional title match, Miller and Haynes defeated Tiffin Columbian’s Leah Wahl and Elise Fruth in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.
Sharick and Donatini won their first match against Eliza Kinn and Kaydance Sutter of Clay 3-6, 6-1, 6-1, then lost their next match against Leah Wahl and Elise Fruth of Tiffin Columbian 1-6, 6-4 , 6- 4. In the third-place match, Sharick and Donatini defeated Clay’s Ellie Haynes and Erin Mentzer in straight sets 6-2, 6-2.
Both doubles teams will play in Port Clinton on Wednesday, October 9.
