Stefanos Tsisipas obtained a title of young girl ATP 500 with a direct victory on Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final of the Dubai tennis championships.
The 26-year-old Greek produced a high performance to beat his Canadian adversary in shape 6-3 6-3.
The fourth seeded had reached the final of the tournament twice before, losing against Novak Djokovic in 2019, then again against Roger Federer a year later.
The victory of Saturday was the 12th world title of Tsitsipas at the tour level, and the biggest outdoor trophy in his career.
He defeated Auger -Aliassime of 24 years old – who runs the ATP tour this season with 16 victories and two titles – in an hour and 28 minutes, and will return to the top 10 in the world ranking on Monday for the first time since May 2024.
“It is a great relief that I am able to hold this trophy after the third attempt,” said Tsitsipas.
“This is something I had in my mind, and I am happy to say that I accomplished it.
“To own a place in the top 10, it is certainly one of the greatest feelings that a tennis player can feel.
“It comes with hard work and sacrifices, but I am happy that I am in a position where I can really celebrate.”
Elsewhere, Henry Patten British and his partner Harri Heliovaara in Finland wasted four championship points before losing in the final of the male double.
The world pair number one was beaten 3-6 7-6 (12-10) 10-8 by Yuki Bhambri in India and Alexei Popyrine of Australia who played together for the first time.
Patten and Heliovaara, the champions of Wimbledon and Australia, had continued their sixth title of tour.
Meanwhile, in Acapulco, the Czech player Tomas Machac won his first ATP Tour title with Victory in the Mexican Open.
The world’s number 25, which won mixed gold at the Paris Olympic Games, beat Spain Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 7-6 (6) 6-2 in the decision-maker.
Machac becomes the third player in his country to win an ATP 500 title, after Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek.
The Spaniard has now lost three finals during the tour, especially at the Delray Beach Open last month.
