If you didn’t see it on Tuesday, the North Carolina Tar Heels hired legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick, but there was a Notre Dame connection in the deal.
While the all-time leader in Super Bowl wins with six had retired in 2024, the lure of the game brought him back. If that wasn’t the case, it looked like former Irish quarterback and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees was going to take over the Tar Heel program.
According to a reporting from ESPN’s Adam SchefterRees was next in line if Belichick declined the offer. Currently he is with the Cleveland Brownsas a passing game specialist and tight ends coach after a stint as offensive coordinator at Alabama.
It’s been quite an interesting journey for Rees as a coach, and should he be considered for this position, expect his name to be associated with others in the future.
