Just six games after joining the starting lineup, Minnesota Timbewolves guard Donte DiVincenzo is out indefinitely with a toe injury.
THE The Timberwolves announced the injury Monday afternoon, before their Martin Luther King Jr. Day game against the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury is a grade 3 sprain to DiVincenzo’s left big toe. He suffered it Wednesday against the Warriors and had missed two games with the injury before Monday.
According to the Timberwolves, they are seeking a second opinion to determine the best treatment options. DiVincenzo wore a walking boot in the Minnesota locker room before the game against the Grizzlies.
DiVincenzo joined the Timberwolves in the offseason in the trade that sent Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks in exchange for a package that also included Julius Randle and a first-round pick. DiVincenzo began the season coming off the bench, but moved to the starting lineup in favor of Mike Conley on January 6 against the Los Angeles Clippers.
In six games as a starter, DiVincenzo averaged 17.5 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 42.1 percent (24 of 57) from 3-point range. In 40 total games in Minnesota, DiVincenzo averaged 11 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 36.9% from 3.
The Timberwolves were 4-2 in games since DiVincenzo joined the starting lineup. After advancing to the Western Conference Finals last season, they entered Monday with a score of 22-20, good for eighth place in the West.
