Miami – Less than 24 hours after what could have been the worst case for the Detroit Tigers, the team seems optimistic about the status of the left -handed Tarik Skubal.
Skubal left the start of Friday evening against the Marlins with an outfit on the left side after only 3 1/3 rounds. Skubal returned to Detroit for a more in -depth evaluation on Saturday morning. Saturday afternoon, the manager of the Tigers AJ Hinch relayed a positive update on the analyzes on the left side of Skubal.
“This is good news,” said Hinch. “The scan has returned clean. So, obviously, it’s great for us and great for him.”
Exactly what it means for Skubal in the coming days is still uncertain. Skubal is expected to make its next start on Thursday against the Guardians. Hinch said Skubal will not return to Miami for the rest of this weekend series. Tigers will meet Skubal on Monday in Detroit and will advance Skubal with its usual post-starting routine.
With a day of the enclosure of the readers on Sunday and a day of leave on Monday, Skubal is already planned with an additional day of rest.
“We are just going to go day after day and make the best possible decisions as you go,” said Hinch. “You can ask me every day. I’m sure you will do it. I have no more information as long as it does more. ”
For the moment, there seems to be optimism around Skubal by making its next departure and avoiding a passage. The 28 -year -old left -hander has an MPM of 2.26 and is the favorite to win a second consecutive prize in the American League Cy Young. Skubal is crucial for the post-season hopes of the Tigers, who remain in first place with an advance of 7 1/2 in the central of Al.
“I’m happy,” said Hinch. “We had a lot of work to do to get it through this pain. I don’t like him to have pain, any of our guys. Obviously, we all expected the scan and the evaluation, and having positive news is a good step forward. ”
