Tiger Woods and his son Charlie, 15, will compete in next week’s PNC Championship, the first event for the 15-time major winner since he underwent back surgery last September, organizers announced Tuesday.
The 36-hole course Dec. 21-22 at the Ritz-Carlton Resort in Orlando features 20 pairs with a major or Players Championship winner teaming up with a family member not competing on any professional golf tour.
The elder Woods, who turns 49 on Dec. 30, will team up with son Charlie for the fifth time, attempting to improve on his second-place finish in 2021 after placing fifth last year.
“I’m very excited to return to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie,” Woods said in a statement. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you’re surrounded by friends and family.”
Woods skipped last week’s Hero World Challenge event in the Bahamas, a 20-player invitational tournament he organizes, after micro-decompression surgery. He had problems walking 72 holes after serious leg injuries from a car accident, but he can use a cart at PNC.
Ireland’s Padraig Harrington and his son Paddy also completed the field, who will start with his father for the sixth time after his brother Ciaran made his debut last year.
The field, which has won a total of 69 major titles, includes women’s golf world number one Nelly Korda and her father Petr, 56, the 1998 Australian Open tennis champion.
