You’ve heard the news by now: Brooks Koepka has followed in his little brother Chase’s footsteps, joining LIV Golf for bags and bags of cash just days after saying he “haven’t thought much about it.” It’s a blow to fans of aloof indifference and cyberbullying from tour pros, but as with all things in life—from a breakup to losing a beloved goldfish—the right song can help ease the pain. Luckily, golf’s resident pianist Sam Harrop did just that Tuesday with this hilarious and incisive Koepka/Oasis parody. Rain-stained glass to peer through not included.
We’ve heard many of Harrop’s hits over the years, including his Tony Finau/REO Speedwagon Power BalladTHE Mickelson/Sheeran mix You didn’t know you needed it, but this might be his best work yet. The “Grow the Game,” Andy Ogletree, and Kevin Na Slow Play bits are all great, but it’s the line “Cast a Dark Cloud in the Sky,” a reference to Koepka’s argument at last week’s Brookline press conference that first set off alarm bells, that really sends this over the top. Most of Harrop’s previous numbers have been good and fun, but this one is clearly a dig and all the better for it.
But best of all, there is the comfort of knowing that Brooks will hear this and will I hate this. The man was hooked on Bryson’s Twitch streams, for God’s sake. Nothing escapes him. No comment is left unsaid.
